Mitsubishi supplies Diamond for new Yankees stadium

The New York Yankees have selected Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision™ to provide the main centre field, high-definition video scoreboard display for the new Yankee Stadium, scheduled to open for the 2009 season.

The installation continues the 25 year relationship between the New York Yankees and Mitsubishi Electric, which began in 1983 with the installation of one of the first Diamond Vision video displays in Major League Baseball.

The new scoreboard will be the first true HD LED display in Major League Baseball and will consist of Mitsubishi Electric's high-density Diamond Vision AVL-ODQ8 8mm LED screen.

The screen comprises 8,601,600 LEDs and is around 30m wide x 18m tall, producing 550sq m of display area. In comparison, the scoreboard in use today at Yankee Stadium measures around 8m x 10m and consists of 486,400 LEDs.

The display will be driven by Mitsubishi Electric's DSC2 Digital Display Controller, providing picture-in-picture type technology with the flexibility to show one large 1080 HD image, several HD images, messages, scoring or other data simultaneously.
